DeWitt County is easy to reach, hard to leave and a great place to live.
DeWitt County, Illinois, has a total area of 405 square miles and is home to one of the largest lakes in the state of Illinois! Clinton Lake is a wonderful place to go camping, fishing, boating, swimming and enjoy many other water sporting activities within it’s 5,000 acre boundaries. Clinton Lake is a rustic, full facility center for aquatic recreation and camping. It is a haven for sailing enthusiasts and a “hot spot” for fishermen as well as swimmers and beach bathers.
For a day trip, a weekend or a lifetime, take some time to discover Clinton Illinois.
Located in the center of what the State Economic Development Department deems “The Golden Square,” Clinton is “smack in the middle of it all.” The proximity to the exact geographical center of the state of Illinois makes it a destination that’s literally easy to reach, but figuratively difficult to leave. Once you begin to experience the pleasures of our area, you may just wish to move here. If so, we can help in that regard too, but for now, let’s touch on things to do while you’re here.
Fun Things to Do
Barn Quilts of DeWitt County
Barn Quilts of DeWitt County is a project designed to celebrate Clinton and DeWitt County’s rich agricultural history, showcase our rural areas, promote agritourism, the arts, and create a sense of community pride. Throughout the county, vibrant, hand-painted 8′ x 8′ quilt blocks on ‘wooden canvases’ adorn numerous barns, making a drive through the countryside all the more enjoyable. Barn Quilts of DeWitt County is an all-volunteer program of the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau. Stop by the chamber to pick up your map and explore the DeWitt County country side.
